Diseases And Conditions
A number of conditions can affect the brain. These conditions can be the result of infection, inflammation, problems with blood vessels (vascular) or relating to tumors (neoplastic). The presentation of these conditions depends on the part of the brain affected. These conditions can affect the brain globally or focally. Examples of a global affect on the brain include headache, loss of consciousness, altered mental status (characterized as acting inappropriate, having inappropriate actions or a lower level of alertness) and seizures. When the brain is focally affected there may be loss of a specific function. This can result in alterations in speech, loss of vision, loss of sensation or weakness of one part of the body or another. |
