Neurocritical care concerns itself with the management of patients suffering from emergency neurological conditions, such as brain hemorrhage, hydrocephalus, brain swelling, seizures, cerebral vasospasm and brain and spine trauma.

Very few neurocritical care facilities are available in the Los Angeles area. Patients are often transferred to a Los Angeles Brain and Spine Institute critical care unit specifically for a higher level of critical care not available at other facilities.
