Tamika Burrus MD
Tamika Burrus, M.D. is a Mayo Clinic trained and board certified neurologist with specialized training in vascular neurology. Dr. Burrus grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, where she was active in the performing arts.
After attending Vanderbilt University, where she earned a B.S. in both chemistry and molecular biology, Dr. Burrus completed two years of a research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health National Cancer Institute focusing on pediatric brain tumors. Dr. Burrus received her medical degree from the University of Iowa and then completed an internal medicine internship at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Burrus completed her Neurology residency training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Her Vascular Neurology fellowship was completed at the University of California at San Francisco. Burrus has specialized expertise not only in Stroke Neurology but also Neurocritical Care and the interpretation of Trans-cranial Doppler Imaging. Dr. Burrus directs the Los Angeles Brain and Spine Institute’s section on Stroke Neurology. Burrus also directs the Institute’s section on Neurosonology, the use of ultrasound technology to diagnose cerebrovascular disorders. She is the Director of Stroke Services at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center. Dr. Burrus continues to be active in neurovascular research, serving as an investigator on several trials and publishing extensively. She has spoken internationally about her research as well as nationally and has received numerous awards from the American Academy of Neurology. Her primary research interests are in intracerebral hemorrhage. Dr. Burrus is a reviewer for the journal Neurology and is a clinical lecturer at UCLA. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Heart Association.
